Lacoste’s green crocodile was designed for Frenchman René Lacoste the tennis player and founder of Lacoste in 1926 after he made a wager with the captain of his Davis cup team. Lacoste would receive a crocodile skin suitcase in exchange for winning an important game. This earnt him the nickname ‘the crocodile’ in the American Press. His friend Robert George drew him a crocodile design which was emblazoned on his tennis shirts and the design is still used in their garment today!
